Day 1 Portsmoouth to Santander
We depart the travel Centre in the morning and make our way to Portsmouth for the late afternoon ferry to Santander.
We have an evening meal included on the ferry and there is chance to explore the facilities and entertainment on board before settling into your cabins for the overnight crossing.
Day 2 on board ferry and Santillana del Mar
We have breakfast included on the ferry and then a day on board to relax before arriving in Sanatander in the early evening.
We will meet our guide and tour escort Ken at Santander before making the short journey to the Hotel Los Infantes, in Santillana del Mar.

Day 3 Costa Verde, Portugal
After breakfast today, we drive along the beautiful Northern Spain coastline, before turning South into Portugal. We shall arrive late afternoon in Vila Praia de Ancora, where we shall stay Hotel Meira for 3 nights. Our evening meal is served at the hotel this evening
Day 4 Bom Jesus Sanctuary, Portugal
After breakfast this morning we visit the spectacular monumental complex of Bom Jesus, overlooking the city of Braga. We have time to enjoy the historic Sanctuary and monuments, the Baroque staircase and funicular railway, and the beautiful gardens. We then continue to Viana do Castelo, the centre of the folklore district, exploring the traffic-free town centre, and later visiting the Santa Luzia viewpoint and church, before returning to our hotel by lunchtime.
This afternoon we have at leisure and evening meal is at the hotel.
Day 5 Peneda-Geres National Park, Portugal
An exciting day today, as we head into the Peneda-Geres National Park. Lunch is included today. We head through isolated villages and into the mountains for unforgettable views high above the natural lakes below. A brief stop will be made to visit the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Peneda before we head to the Palace of Brejoeira for a guided walkabout. Before arriving back at the hotel, we shall include a visit to the fortress-like border town of Valença, with its narrow cobbled streets and quaint shops.
Day 6 Ponte de Lima Garden Festival and Galicia, Spain
This morning after breakfast we say farewell to the hotel Meira and head to Ponte de Lima, believed to be the oldest town in Portugal. On arrival we shall enjoy a visit to the annual International Garden Festival, before crossing the River Lima into the town. Perhaps take a stroll alongside the River Lima, and its tree-lined avenue, or maybe a little retail therapy among the pedestrianised streets, or why not just watch the world go by with a coffee in the Main Square. We then head over the border into Galicia, Spain, and soon arrive at our hotel for the next three nights, the Hotel Bosque Mar.
Before dinner this evening , join Ken for a Sangria by the pool.
Day 7 Pontevedra Estuary cruise and Wine Estate ,
After breakfast, we shall keep to the natural coastline of this part of Galicia, North west Spain to enjoy the little bays, inlets, and sandy beaches. A short drive will bring us to Combarro, a small village on the Estuary of Pontevedra, and in itself an Artistic National Monument. After a walk through this quaint traffic-free village and its little shops, we shall rejoin our coach and head for O Grove, a prime fishing centre and harbour, and fine shops.In the early afternoon, we shall board a glass-bottomed boat for a cruise among the shellfish platforms and learn about the cultivation of mussels, oysters, and scallops. There will be an opportunity, for those who wish, to sample some of those ‘fruits of the sea’ !! Our last visit of the day is to the Wine Estate of the Pazo de Rubianes. Our guided visit will include the beautiful gardens of the Estate, a visit to the family house, and a sample of the Estate ‘nectar’. We shall return to our hotel late afternoon and our evening meal will be served at the hotel.
Day 8 Santiago de Compostela
Today, a highlight for some will be our visit to Santiago de Compostela. The third of the Holy Cities, with its narrow pedestrianised shopping streets, Cathedral, Shrines, Monuments and historic squares, the city is there to be enjoyed. A short walk from the coach will bring us to Obradoiro Square, dominated by the Cathedral, flanked by the Rajoy Palace and the impressive Parador. A University city, and a Market Place for Galician farmers and also, for us, offering ample time to attend Mass in the Cathedral.
Back at the hotel later , our evening meal is included.
Day 9 Santillana del Mar – Ferry Santander to Plymouth
We must leave the Hotel Bosque Mar, heading back into Asturias and Cantabria, including a return to Santillana del Mar for a visit to this historic and attractive village, before continuing on to Santander in good time to board the evening departure of the overnight ferry back to Plymouth.

Day 10 Return journey
We have breakfast on board before a day on board the ferry.
Arriving into Plymouth at 4.15pm , we travel back to the Travel Centre, arriving in the late evening
