A perfectly blended tour visiting the ‘Garden of England’. Take a trip on a vintage steam train, meander round fine gardens, explore ‘the loveliest castle in the world’ as well as tasting some award winning English wines. All this whilst visiting some attractive towns and seeing some amazing coastal scenery.
Monday: We depart the Travel Centre this morning and make our way to Hastings with a stop en route, arriving at the hotel late afternoon.
Tuesday: We travel across Kent to Canterbury where we have free time to explore this 14th century town, rich in history such as its famous Kings School, monastery ruins, half timbered houses and of course its Cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Afterwards, we visit nearby Leeds Castle described as the ‘loveliest castle in the world’ dating back over 900 years. We spend the rest of the day exploring the castle and its 500 acres of gardens and parkland.
Wednesday: This morning we take a relaxing journey through the rolling Kent countryside to Bodiam and its imposing castle where our steam train ‘The Jewel of the Weald’ waits for a 50-minute gentle winding journey through the Rother Valley. At Tenterden we take a short journey to Great Dixter, an historic Tudor house, complete with a Great Hall dating back to the 15th century. Their gardens are a place of pilgrimage for horticulturists from around the world.
Thursday: Today we visit one of the most famous & extensive English gardens at Sissinghurst, set against a backdrop of rolling countryside. The gardens are arranged that, as you walk through each distinctly different ‘room’ another area of the garden is discovered. Afterwards, we make our way to one of Kent’s finest wineries, with acres of manicured vineyards and apple orchards. Included is a guided tour of the Estate followed by a tasting session.
Friday: We bid a fond farewell to the hotel staff this morning as we make our way back to Hugglescote, with a stop en route.
