Visit the Garden of England on this holiday which offers a journey back in time featuring attractions including Chartwell, the home of Winston Churchill whom many believe was the greatest Briton of the 20th Century.
Monday: We depart the Travel Centre this morning and make our way to Chatham with a stop en route. We aim to arrive at the hotel late afternoon.
Tuesday: Today we begin the day with a visit to the Historic Dockyard Chatham. With a history that spans from the Spanish Armada to the Falklands Crisis and more recently as a set for Call the Midwife, this is a fascinating visit. We continue to Rochester, famous for its links to Charles Dickens. Why not visit the attractions such as Restoration House, the Guildhall Museum, and the Cathedral.
Wednesday: First stop today is the historic town of Canterbury, with time at leisure to explore the the architecture and winding lanes and streets of the city. This afternoon we visit Tenterden Vineyard, home to the award winning Chapel Down Winery. Here a guided tour shows us the wine making process before finishing with a tasting of the produce. A perfect way to end the day!
Thursday: Today we visit Hever Castle & Gardens where Henry VIII’s second wife, Ann Boleyn grew up. Discover how it developed from the original defensive structure built in 1270 to the grand royal home of the 15th and 16th centuries.
We then visit Chartwell, a home and a place that truly inspired Sir Winston Churchill. The house is still much as it was when the family lived here, with pictures, books and personal mementoes. The studio is home to the largest collection of Churchill’s paintings.
Friday: We bid a fond farewell to the hotel staff as we head back this morning to Hugglescote, arriving back late afternoon
