More than just a traditional seaside resort, Whitby has a history and heritage that gives it a magical appeal to almost anyone who visits. Home to Blue flag beaches, world famous steam trains and railways, stunning sea views, and celebrations and festivals throughout the year, this Yorkshire coastal destination overlooking the North Sea is a treasure trove of tourist attractions and events.
Arguably one of the towns most famous attractions are the atmospheric gothic ruins Whitby Abbey - built in the 13th century this dramatic historic site is the famous inspiration for Bram Stokers Dracula, a fact which has seen thousands of people flock to the site twice a year dressed in Gothic and Steampunk fancy dress for the International Bram Stoker Film Festival and Halloween celebrations to pay tribute to the creator of Dracula.
In stark contrast to this the town also host regular music festivals and events throughout the year - form the Whitby Folk week and everything from Soul to Jazz and 60's music nights hosted at Whitby Pavillion and beautiful harbour area.
Whitby is also home to the oldest sea festivals on the North Coast every August, the Whitby Regatta, where visitors are treated to firework displays, yacht and rowing races, music and food over the course of a weekend to celebrate over 170 years of Aquatic competition.
