Kent, known as the ‘Garden of England’, is England’s oldest county and its rich heritage includes ancient castles, stately homes and fascinating gardens.
We will visit the best castles and gardens in the Kent area including, Leeds Castle, Sissinghurst Castle & Garden, and Hever Castle & Gardens. We will also take a journey on the Spa Valley Railway.
Monday: We depart the Travel Centre this morning and make our way to Maidstone with a stop en route. We aim to arrive at the hotel late afternoon.
Tuesday: We visit the exquisite Leeds Castle, one of Kent’s best known attractions, to discover its 900 years of history and explore some of the 500 acres of beautiful parkland. The castle has a fascinating history. Built in the 12th century, it was extensively rebuilt to become a palace for Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon.
In the afternoon we visit Sissinghurst Castle & Garden which was created in the 1930s and designed as a series of ‘rooms’; each garden has a different character of colour and theme.
Wednesday: We visit Hever Castle & Gardens where Henry VIII’s second wife, Ann Boleyn grew up. Discover how it developed from the original defensive structure built in 1270 to the grand royal home of the 15th and 16th centuries.
Thursday: This morning we take a journey on the Spa Valley Railway. After, we visit the spa town of Tunbridge Wells, with its colonnaded and paved tree-lined promenades, named ‘The Pantiles’.
Friday: We bid a fond farewell to the hotel staff as we head back this morning to Hugglescote, arriving back late afternoon
