The African Queen
Our floating home, The African Queen, is a 2 deck, 100ft Dutch Barge with 8 cosy, comfortable cabins and is one of the few passenger cruisers on the Thames.
We are lucky to be able to offer this unique cruise and our hosts, Andy and Bonnie look forward to welcoming you on board. Each cabin is en-suite with towels and toiletries. Cabins are situated on the lower deck while the upper deck has the lounge/ bar and dining area.
Day 1 Welcome to the African Queen
We travel to The African Queen at the Mapledurham Estate and board in the afternoon
After a welcome meeting from our Skipper, Andy, the African Queen will set off up-stream to Goring on Thames, following ‘The Wind In The Willows Route’, arriving in the early evening.
Guests can go ashore & enjoy a ‘Sundowner’ at any one of the old historical pubs close by before a three course ‘Cape Malay’ dinner is served on board.
The African Queen will spend the night in Goring.
End the day at the bar and be regaled by our captain, with stories of the river.
Day 2 Wallingford
After breakfast the African Queen will continue her journey upstream to Wallingford where there is time to go ashore to explore this little village famous for the filming of Midsummer Murders.
After some time here ,we board the African Queen again as she turns around and cruises downstream to the Beetle Wedge riverside restaurant arriving around 13:30 where passengers can enjoy a two course lunch.
After lunch we continue our journey back to Mapledurham which includes cruising through three locks.
A light supper will be served on board and we spend the night on board here.
Day 3 Mapledurham – Caversham – Sonning
Friday morning starts with a hearty breakfast, followed by a walk through the old Village of Mapledurham and a visit to the late 18th century Chapel.
On returning to the boat we continue our journey downstream to Caversham to enjoy a two-course lunch. And in the afternoon we continue our journey to Sonning arriving around 16:00.
Excursion to the Mill at Sonning Dinner Theatre.
Day 4 Henley on Thames
After a hearty breakfast the African Queen will cruise to Henley on Thames and a two- course lunch will be served on board. The afternoon is to explore the beautiful town on Henley.
Saturday evening we serve a traditional South African Braai / BBQ on board followed by the 'Saturday Night Quiz'.
Day 5 Sunday lunch and farewell
After breakfast the African Queen will cruise upstream to Mapledurham arriving around 14:30.
A two course ‘Sunday Roast’ will be served on board while cruising
We say farewell to our hosts after lunch and travel back to the Travel centre , arriving in the early evening.
Please note : The African Queen does not have a lift all of the cabins are situated on the lower deck.
The cabins are compact and comfortable.
Our hosts are Andy and Bonny on board and will look after you during your cruise.
