Join us as we visit the iconic Dover Castle, the ‘key to England’, for a whirl through Britain’s rich history, from Henry II’s Great Tower to the depths of Secret War Tunnels ,where the dramatic rescue operation of the 1940 ‘Miracle of Dunkirk’ is vividly brought to life. We will also take a fascinating guided tour of the authentic Underground Hospital.
Monday: We depart the Travel Centre this morning and make our way to Folkestone with a stop en route. We aim to arrive at the hotel late afternoon.
Tuesday: Today we head for Dover Castle where we step inside the Great Tower and immerse ourselves in the history of this great castle. Please note: the upper floor of the Great Tower has steep flights of narrow steps and there are some very steep slopes and cobbled walkways within the grounds.
After our time at the castle, we will return to our hotel, making a stop at the Battle of Britain Memorial in Capel-le-Ferne. The National Memorial is a peaceful spot where the heroes of the Battle of Britain are commemorated. Looking out to sea, the central statue of alone pilot is accompanied by a Memorial Wall and two replica aircraft.
Wednesday: This morning we travel to the picturesque market town of Tenterden with its fine High Street ranking amongst the most attractive in the country for a visit to the Old Dairy Brewery and a ride on the Kent & East Susex Railway.
Thursday: Today, we visit nearby resorts of Margate and Broadstairs.
Friday: We bid a fond farewell to the hotel, making a stop for lunch, before arriving back at the Travel Centre late this afternoon.
