Breweries & locomotives of the North West

The East Lancashire Railway is a lovingly restored rail experience offering visitors the chance to ride classic steam and diesel fueled locomotives. The station at Bury is a step back in time with its retro décor and Union Jack bunting, 1940s luggage, traditional tickets and uniformed ticket collectors.

Our visit to a brewery gives us an insight into the day-to-day inner workings of a Brewery during a relaxed and informal tour, covering all the necessities of the brewing process beginning with the malt silo right through the underback and copper to the racking machine and cold store.

At the cheese shop we will see the cheese being made from the comfort of a purpose-built viewing gallery overlooking the dairy, featured on ‘Barging Around Britain’, presented by TV and radio journalist and broadcaster, John Sergent.

Another day out takes us to visit the Fred Dibnah Heritage Centre where we enjoy a guided tour of the house and grounds. Previously the home of Bolton’s very own world famous steeple jack, 121 Radcliffe Road has been lovingly restored and much of the grounds machinery is as Fred left it.

Our itinerary includes

A ride on the East Lancashire Railway between Bury to Rawtenstall, with some free time in the lively town of Bury located on the edge of Greater Manchester

A visit to a brewery with tour & tasting

A visit to Dewlay Cheeses – a family owned, third generation dairy with purpose built viewing gallery & award winning cheese shop

A visit to Fred Dibnah Heritage Centre with time after in Bolton
